TECHNOLOGY

Provenance’s technologies harness the immune system to recognize and fight disease at its source, the recently identified cancer stem cell.

Cancer stem cells are believed to originate through mutation of normal cells and are then nurtured in a protective stem cell niche. They eventually develop into cancer as we know it through cellular differentiation. Traditional cancer therapies target the progeny of cancer stem cells but not the source, since these rare cells are naturally resistant to chemotherapy and radiation. Provenance Biopharmaceuticals’ technologies target cancer at its source by inducing the body’s immune system to kill these highly tumorigenic cells, and develop an immune memory against them.
